What file types are supported?

Archivus supports:

  • PDF (up to 500 MB)
  • Word documents (.docx, .doc) - up to 100 MB
  • Text files (.txt, .md) - up to 50 MB
  • Images (.jpg, .png, .tiff) - up to 50 MB (OCR support)
  • Spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xls) - up to 100 MB
  • PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt) - up to 100 MB

How long does document processing take?

Document processing typically takes:

  • Small documents (< 10 pages): 30-60 seconds
  • Medium documents (10-50 pages): 1-3 minutes
  • Large documents (> 50 pages): 3-5 minutes

Processing time depends on document size, complexity, and current system load.


AI Features

Semantic search is 10-100x more accurate than traditional keyword search. It understands meaning and finds documents even when they use different terminology.

How accurate are AI answers?

AI answers include confidence scores (0.0 to 1.0). Answers with confidence > 0.7 are typically very accurate. Always review source citations for important decisions.

  • Keyword search: Finds documents containing exact words
  • Semantic search: Finds documents by meaning, even without exact words

Example:

  • Query: “tax return documents”
  • Keyword search: Finds only documents with “tax return”
  • Semantic search: Finds documents about “1040 forms”, “income tax filing”, “tax documents”, etc.

How much do AI features cost?

AI features use AI credits:

  • Chat message: 1 credit
  • Semantic search: 0.5 credits
  • Quick summary: 1 credit
  • Full summary: 2 credits
  • Entity extraction: 2 credits

How do I authenticate with the API?

Technical

How does semantic search work?

  1. Documents are converted to vector embeddings (1536 dimensions)
  2. Your query is converted to the same vector format
  3. Archivus finds documents with similar vectors
  4. Results are ranked by similarity score

How does AI chat work?

Archie uses Claude AI to:

  1. Read and understand your documents
  2. Answer questions based on document content
  3. Provide source citations
  4. Include confidence scores

What AI models does Archivus use?

  • Claude AI (Anthropic) - Document analysis, Q&A, tagging
  • OpenAI - Semantic search embeddings
  • Anthropic Skills API - Professional report generation

Can I use Archivus offline?

No, Archivus is a cloud-based service and requires an internet connection.


Troubleshooting

Document processing is stuck

Solution:

  1. Wait 2-5 minutes (normal for large files)
  2. Check worker service status
  3. Retry upload if stuck > 10 minutes
  4. Contact support if persistent

Search returns no results

Solution:

  1. Verify documents are processed (ai_status: "completed")
  2. Try broader search terms
  3. Check if documents exist in your account
  4. Verify embeddings are generated

Chat gives low confidence answers

Solution:

  1. Rephrase your question
  2. Be more specific
  3. Break complex questions into smaller ones
  4. Check source citations

Rate limit exceeded

Solution:

  1. Wait until rate limit resets
  2. Implement exponential backoff
  3. Reduce request frequency
